'He must be crying inside' This Morning fans take swipe at Phillip Schofield's NTA snub

This Morning viewers have savagely mocked the reaction of under-fire host Phillip Schofield as he spoke to Alison Hammond ahead of the National Television Awards. Some fans of the show speculated on how the veteran host may be feeling ahead of the glitzy occasion.

Phillip chatted to fellow ITV presenter Alison as they celebrated her nomination for the Best Presenter Award.

However, some viewers clearly hadn't forgotten the controversy over his and Holly Willoughby's queuing incident during the Queen's Lying-in-State.

Asterism MS13 tweeted: "Phil must be crying inside that he hasn't been nominated..."

Connor added: "Wonder if Phil and Holly will skip the queue and red carpet for the #NTAs."

Alison is currently the joint favourite to take over from Phil and Holly on the regular This Morning sofas.

Following widespread criticism from what people originally perceived as queue-jumping during the Queen's Lying-in-State, the duo's future on the show has been in doubt.

One petition set up to request they are sacked from the show gained over 75,000 signatures.

The presenting pair did point out they had not jumped the queue in Westminster Hall, Holly declared on the show amid the furore: "We, of course, respected those rules, however, we realise it may have looked like something else and therefore totally understand the reaction. Please know, we would never jump a queue."

But some fans have not accepted the explanation and Bookmakers Coral fancy Alison and fellow host Dermot O'Leary to be the main presenters of the long-running daytime show.
