The inevitable death of King Viserys I Targaryen (played by Paddy Considine) finally came in Sunday’s gripping episode of House of the Dragon. Although the wildly successful Game of Thrones prequel has drawn in millions of viewers worldwide, English star Paddy admitted he hasn’t been among them.

Paddy revealed he hasn’t been keeping up with House of the Dragon as he doesn’t enjoy watching his own performances.

Although he joined over 20 million people to tune into the first couple of episodes, the actor has refused to carry on.

When asked if he had seen Viserys’ death scene, he confirmed: “No, I haven’t, and I’m not sure if I ever will.”

In the latest episode, Viserys is close to death as he imparts a cryptic message to Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), mistaking her for his daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy).

Next week’s episode, The Green Council, will undoubtedly deal with the fallout from Viserys’ death and continue the feud between the King’s wife and daughter.

While HBO’s first Game of Thrones spin-off has gone from strength to strength each week, Paddy has been avoiding any footage of his acclaimed performance.

“I haven’t seen anything beyond episode two, really,” he told the New York Times.

“Some people don’t like to watch themselves, and I’m one of those people.”

“The extremity — Viserys looking so emaciated, how it’s so cancerous, this thing, that it eats into his face — that decision was made more than halfway into the shoot,” he explained.

“So it went probably more extreme than I had originally imagined it would go.

“I watched my dad die of cancer, and it was a very rapid demise. So it certainly made sense to me, and I think it was pretty shocking and effective.

“It becomes a physical manifestation of all the infighting and skulduggery, really.”

Paddy’s performance has been one of the most impressive in Game of Thrones history as the King went from a strong-willed ruler to a withered shadow of his former self.

Viserys’ rapidly changing appearance has certainly made an impact on viewers, who have watched the aging king’s condition grow worse and worse with each episode.

His passing will mark a cataclysmic point for the Targaryens, and fantasy fans already know the next battle for the Iron Throne will be another bloodbath for the people of Westeros.

House of the Dragon continues Sundays on HBO in the USA and Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
