Krishnan Guru-Murthy taken off air by Channel after branding MP a 'c***'

[-WATCH UK TV LIVE-]

The journalist has been taken off the channel for one week after he was recorded on tape calling Tory MP Steve a "c***" following an interview. Head of News Louisa Compton announced the update in a tweet, and the 52-year-old later issued his own apology on the social media platform, stating he has also "reached out" to the MP.

The derogatory remark wasn't aired on TV but was picked up later on a live stream.

He'd been talking to the MP over Liz Truss and the chaos which ensured in parliament on Wednesday evening.

More than 40 Conservative MPs voted against the Prime Minister, who has just recently announced her resignation, which was met with allegations of "bullying and manhandling".

Krishnan, when off-camera, commented: "It wasn’t a stupid question, Steve, you know it.

"I’m very happy to go up against you on Truss any day."

Muttering to himself, he continued: "What a c***." On Wednesday night, the journalist apologised on Twitter.

He wrote: "After a robust interview with Steve Baker MP, I used a very offensive word in an unguarded moment off air.

"While it was not broadcast that word in any context is beneath the standards I set myself and I apologize unreservedly.

Because the news anchor had booked a week of leave already, he won't be back until November 4, reports Sky News.

Following the awkward moment, Mr Baker told Times Radio that the presenter should be sacked.

He argued: "I had an interview earlier with a journalist I don't have a great deal of regard for who I felt was misrepresenting the situation through the construction of his question, which I called out.

"And he clearly didn't like that, quite right, too. But I'd be quite honest, I spent a long time live on air, calling him out on his conduct as a journalist and glad to do so any time.

"But it's most unfortunate that he's sworn on air like that. If it's in breach of his code of conduct, I do hope they sack him - it would be a service to the public."

The MP went on to reply to Guru-Murthy's apology, which he accepted and announced he "appreciated" the gesture.

The heated interview took place following an unprecedented day in politics.

Following the chaos, Truss announced her resignation on Thursday.
