Not everyone had the same opinion as a row erupted between Stacey Solomon and Kaye Adams. Stacey explained she felt women had a choice on whether they would stay at home or have a career. However, Kaye felt it was a step back as it showed women doing everything for a man in the home.

The Loose Women panel watched a video from TikTok which showed a “stay at home girlfriend” tidying up, making drinks and running light errands.

As it came to an end, the panel clashed over whether it was a good idea to promote the trend.

Carol stated: “I don’t have a massive problem with it, as long as it’s not like, you know, an ambition.

“But these things out on TikTok and billions of people looking at them I think could be damaging to young girls because they might think, ‘Right that’s all I have to do is get myself a rich bloke, a nice house and make him coffee every morning.’

“But there will be more to it than that. There won’t be anything you won’t be allowed to say no to.”

“I disagree,” Stacey cut in. “What’s the difference between a stay at home mum, or a housewife.”

Kaye stated: “Well a stay at home mum you have children to look after and there’s also financial dependency if you’re a wife and a commitment if you’re a wife. It’s a different sort of relationship.

“But if you’re girlfriend then you know, what is the commitment there?”

“But what if they’re generally happy making someone’s bed and a latte every day? Good on them,” Stacey replied.

“I don’t know why we’re so angry with these people.”

“But that’s what they want,” Stacey said. “I don’t want to be that because I am not that and when women were fighting for our independence and for our right to choose and our right to choose, I interpret it as we fought for the right to make our own decisions.

“Whether that be from home, being a stay at home wife or girlfriend, whatever you want to be, whatever you want to be.”

Kaye hit back: “We’re not talking about stay at home boyfriends. There is no trend on TikTok for stay at home boyfriends. The power dynamic is always that women will be financially dependent on men and women will look after him.”

“But who says these women don’t have their own money?” Stacey asked.

Kaye responded: “The whole thing about the trend is that they don’t, the man is financially independent.”

As Linda mocked the video joking she was “making juice and making the bed” Carol pointed out it could be tongue-in-cheek.

However the panel continued to disagree with each other and began talking over one another.

“This really annoys me, you can have it all as a woman,” Stacey shouted. “You can be a mum and a businesswoman and a CEO and everything else in between.

“But let me tell you, you’ll never see me doing it, it’s hard work.”

Kaye admitted: “Well then we need to change the power balance so when Joe is in an interview he is asked about juggling work and the kids.”

“I agree with you,” Stacey said. “But why are we blaming the woman again? She had the choice and she is making that choice.”

Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV at 12.30pm.
