Timothy McGee’s (played by Sean Murray) other half Delilah Fielding (Margo Harshman) is no stranger to finding herself in the thick of some of NCIS’ most dangerous and high-profile cases. As season 20 continues on CBS ahead of its winter hiatus and historic three-way crossover with LA and Hawaii, new plot details have emerged to confirm she’ll return - although it’s not going to be in the happiest of circumstances.

Harshman’s return as Delilah will come in the ninth episode of the drama’s 20th run, entitled Higher Education.

The episode is still some way away, unfortunately, with NCIS heading on a week-long hiatus after episode eight airs on November 21.

This means that sadly there isn’t a teaser promo to give fans a peek as to what exactly lies ahead for Delilah’s return.

However, the newly-released synopsis does provide some details as to what McGee and his wife will face and it’s far from pleasant.

The plot line for Higher Education reads: “NCIS investigates the death of a college student who was killed while running across the street and had connections to McGee’s wife, Delilah.”

NCIS fans will undoubtedly be worried as to what exactly these connections will be given Delilah will now be mourning a loss of someone she knows.

Perhaps the killed student was someone Delilah had mentored or worked closely with in the past?

Or in what would undoubtedly be a tragic scenario for both her and McGee, could the student have been related to Delilah in some way?

Elsewhere, Jessica Knight (Katrina Law), Alden Parker (Gary Cole) and Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) appear to be thrown into the action to get to the bottom of the hit-and-run.

Parker can be seen in one snap quizzing a young man by the name of Logan Kennedy (Zachary S Williams).

While other photos show Knight and Torres taking their investigation to a frat house, only to be shown sprinting away as presumably, a development arises.

But will fans and Delilah get the answers they want to the case? One thing that is for sure is many viewers are excited to see Delilah return.

Taking to Twitter after the first details of the episode emerged, NCIS fan @ellieschqn said: “I might actually have to watch this ep for delilah, even though i stopped watching ncis a while back…”

While @knightspalmer excitedly penned: “20.09 episode description #NCIS Delilah is back!!” (sic)

Harshman first appeared in NCIS back in 2013 in the season 11 premiere, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

Higher Education will mark her 18th appearance in the CBS crime drama.

NCIS season 20 continues Mondays on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
