Coronation Street fans were fighting the urge to laugh during a dramatic scene on Monday evening as killer Stephen Reid struggles to hide his crimes.

The murderous businessman has seen the walls closing in on him in recent weeks, as his axe-wielding and scamming continue to be at risk of coming to light.

The character, played by Todd Boyce, is again at risk of being caught out on the cobbles after he claimed another victim in Teddy Thompkins.

Stephen did away with Teddy after he finally realised that his son Leo had been murdered by the crooked conman.

Stephen managed to bundle Leo's body into the roof box on Audrey's car, only for Audrey to drive off to meet a friend before he could get away with the body.

The roof box antics left Corrie fans at home in hysterics as Stephen panicked when Nick revealed that Audrey had suffered a flat tyre in the car on a trip to the Peak District to see her friend Bev and was blaming something heavy on the car.

Stephen turned typically frantic as he tried to cover up his crime, insisting he had boxed up some sewing machines for repair.

Meanwhile, Sarah confided in Stephen that she'd had a secret meeting with Michael in the factory.

When Sarah suggested the CCTV footage of the meeting needed to be wiped so that Carla didn't see it, Stephen was again in panic mode as he realised there would be footage of Teddy's attack.

Sarah handed over the keys so Stephen could get the stashed sewing machines fixed, instead driving out to the canal under the cover of darkness to dispose of the body.

After Stephen dumped Teddy's corpse in the canal, he again briefly panicked when it didn’t sink at first, just as a passerby-by approached.

Stephen’s fate teetered on an edge while the roof box piled full with bricks bobbed at surface level, but it soon dipped under the water and out of sight.

Yet Coronation Street fans were left laughing at the harried series of scenes, as they begged show producers to end the storyline.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “This is getting ridiculous now. Just end this Stephen storyline now Corrie.”

A second chimed: “I think I'm gonna have to stop watching Corrie until Stephen has left."

A third added: “I swear if we don’t get the downfall of Stephen by the end of the week. It’s been going on too long. Someone just open the roof box."

“Is this idiot going to turn himself in?” another asked. “This Stephen storyline is insufferable!! END THIS NOW!!!!" Another said: "Surely time is up for Stephen now….ffs."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
