Helena Bonham Carter has called for The Crown to end.

The actress, 26, who played the late Queen Elizabeth II’s younger sister Princess Margaret in the third and fourth seasons of the Netflix royal drama, has said the show should wrap up now as it’s no longer a historical drama.

The fifth season of The Crown launched in November 2022 and with it came immense controversy as bosses focused on more recent events in the royal family including Princess Diana's divorce from Charles, and her bombshell interview with Panorama.

Sharing her thoughts on the Netflix series, Helena said: "I should be careful here too, but I don’t think they should carry on, actually. I’m in it and I loved my episodes, but it’s very different now.

"When The Crown started it was a historic drama, and now it’s crashed into the present. But that’s up to them."

Although the actress thinks Netflix bosses should call it quits on The Crown, the show is set to return for a sixth series and a planned final season that will cover the late 1990s and bring the show into the early 2000s.

It's not the first time Helena has hit out against The Crown.

Back in 2021, she hit out against the show over whether or not Netflix should add a disclaimer to the series - informing viewers it’s historical fiction and not fact.

Recent seasons of the show have faced immense backlash and scrutiny from family and friends of the British royals for its dramatisation of events - most notably the toxic marriage between Princess Diana and Prince Charles.

"It is dramatised," Helena said at the time.

"I do feel very strongly, because I think we have a moral responsibility to say, ‘Hang on guys, this is not… it’s not a drama-doc, we’re making a drama.’ So they are two different entities."
