James Martin, 50, has paid a heartbreaking tribute to his late friend, French chef Michel Roux, who died back in 2020. The ITV chef logged onto Instagram to pen a heartfelt message to mark Michel’s death anniversary in view of his 709,000 followers.

He uploaded two snaps of the pair smiling broadly while James placed an arm around Michel.

Alongside the pictures, James recounted the good times they spent together as he promised to see him again to share a glass of wine.

He wrote: “Another year passes. I will never forget you my friend…thanks for your advice, support, vision, loyalty and drinking the best wines in my cellar…will see you one day for another glass or two X.”

James’ fans rushed to the post’s comments section to send him their support as the TV star lamented his loss.

They said: “It is with deep sadness that the Roux family announces the passing of our beloved grandfather, father, brother and uncle, Michel Roux OBE.

“The family would like to thank everyone for their support during his illness.

“While many of you will share our great sense of loss, we request privacy for the family at this difficult time.

“We are grateful to have shared our lives with this extraordinary man and we’re so proud of all he’s achieved.”

Last year, James became emotional on air as he honoured Michel while celebrating the 200th episode of his ITV show, Saturday Morning.

The TV star felt compelled to fight back the tears earlier today as he recalled a time he had cooked at the legendary chef’s French home.

He later explained on his Twitter account: “Sorry I got a bit emotional on the @sat_jamesmartin show.

“Michel Roux Snr was like a father figure to me and that day in France was one of the greatest in my life.”
