Matt Hancock reportedly wanted to celebrate Piers Morgan's dramatic exit from Good Morning Britain during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

The disgraced MP who was ousted from his position as Health Secretary after it emerged he had an affair and broke his own guidelines recently had a series of WhatsApp messages leaked.

Now, Piers has sensationally claimed that Mr Hancock and others had hoped they may have been able to celebrate his exit from the show following his Meghan Markle fallout.

During an episode of his TalkTV show, Piers, 57, appeared to share text messages sent by Hancock and Helen Whately during the pandemic.

Piers was joined by Isabel Oakeshott who exposed Hancock's WhatsApp messages to The Telegraph after ghostwriting his memoir.

In one message sent to Hancock by Whately, she said: "How about we celebrate the departure of Piers at/after our team meeting tomorrow pm? Just a thought."

Mr Hancock responded: "Perfect."

But it didn't stop there as Isabel went on to claim that while searching through Hancock's WhatsApp message, Piers was mentioned on multiple occasions, hinting the MPs were "obsessed" with the broadcaster.

She said: "They were continually wondering what to say to you to keep you in the place they wanted you to be.

"They were worrying about the extent to which you were challenging them on… They were absolutely overjoyed when you left your job."

During the pandemic, MPs famously boycotted Good Morning Britain leaving the then hosts, Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan wanting to grill them even more.

Reacting to Hancock's message, Piers addressed viewers as he said: "Perfect, it would have been if they had had a big party to celebrate me losing my job after actually holding people like those two to such rigorous account for the previous year.

"Only one problem, if they did have that party, and we don't know, lockdown restrictions at the time would have meant that kind of party to celebrate me losing my job would have been strictly prohibited, illegal."

Hancock has continually denied breaking any laws, stating that the restrictions put in place by the government were mere guidance.

Meanwhile, Isabel went on to state that The Telegraph will be sharing even more blistering messages on March 3, showing the "gloating" and "gleefulness" reactions shown by those in power after people were arrested for breaching the lockdown rules.

Watch Piers Morgan Uncensored on weekdays on TalkTV at 8pm.
