Halle Bush, 26, makes her acting debut in the highly-anticipated Amazon series The Power, taking the hit 2016 novel to the big screen with the pivotal role of Allie.

Walking the red carpet last week in a jaw-dropping emerald gown, Halle looked every bit the rising star she is, with her mother proudly looking on from the sidelines as her daughter spoke to the press.

Halle’s mum joined her while talking to Express.co.uk and was almost instantly on the brink of tears when asked how proud she was of her daughter.

She gushed: “You’re going to make me cry if I start talking. I’m beyond proud of her.”

Getting a bit choked up, she added: “To go in there and knock it out first time…I can’t!”

Halle jokingly added: “It’s alright, we’re not going to catch this on camera!”

Earlier in the interview, the actress revealed that she had immediately “connected” to her character Allie when she first read the script in her audition.

Despite her steadfast belief this would be her breakout role, Halle added: “My mom’s been in the industry longer than me and she was preparing me for a ‘no’ but in my heart and soul, I just felt like it was for me. So when I got it it was like, ‘Oh wow I really got the role!’.”

Starring alongside the likes of Muriel’s Wedding star Toni Collette and legendary Ice Age actor John Leguizamo, Halle steps into acting in the sci-fi series which sees teen girls across the world developing the ability to electrocute people at will.

The actress declared that, if given the choice, she would love to have The Power, poignantly noting: “I would only use it out of self-defence, not for anything bad. I would feel more safe with it, especially as a woman.”

In Allie’s own story of extreme darkness and unrelenting hope, Halle hopes she can inspire audiences to know: “They have a voice and they can speak out whenever they’re ready and comfortable to speak out.”

The Power releases on Amazon on March 31.
