Emmerdale 's vicar Charles Anderson was seen threatening Alex Moore in tonight's episode, following the latter waking up in hospital after being the victim of a hit-and-run.

Alex (played by Liam Boyle) was knocked down recently by Billy Fletcher ( Jay Kontzle ) and ended up being hospitalised after sustaining injuries as a result of the incident.

Charles (Kevin Mathurin) however was questioned by police over it, after having confronted Alex about him targeting the vicar's family and stealing drugs from the GP surgery.

Tonight's episode saw Charles - who has since learned that Billy was behind the wheel of the car - visit Alex in hospital and threaten him against naming Billy as the driver.

During a tense scene earlier, Alex mentioned being close to Charles' daughter Naomi Walters (Karene Peter), which prompted the vicar to warn him: "I'd be very careful".

Alex responded: "What are you gonna do? You're a man of the cloth." Charles then removed his clerical collar and said he would "help [Alex] make the right choices".

He later stated: "[People shouldn't] seek revenge because that's God's job and it's coming in the future". Charles however suggested he would deal with the "here and now".

Leaning over Alex in a hospital bed, he said: "I'm a father first and a vicar second. It will always be in that order. You're a snake and there's only one way of ending a snake".

Charles said he was looking out for Billy and his wife Dawn Fletcher ( Olivia Bromley ), after having previously told Alex to leave the village and not mention Billy to the police.

Charles' approach seemed to have an impact on Alex, who assured that he wouldn't "say anything" - despite having previously wanted to report that Billy had knocked him over.

As he leaned further over the hospital bed, the vicar said: "For what I'm about to do, God forgive me". Alex nervously reacted: "Okay, whatever it is you want me to do, I'll do it".

Charles threatened: "You try to ruin anything for them and I will end you". He then urged: "You'll disappear. Find a rock and crawl under it, and you'll stay there for good."

ITV viewers had wondered during the scenes tonight if Charles would murder Alex. One tweeted: "Is Charles going to kill Alex?" Another had said: "This is murder talk".

Others had hoped it would happen, with one writing: "Just do it now and have done with it!" Another said: "Finish him Charles". Another tweeted: "Alex you better run".

Another viewer tweeted earlier: "Who is gonna suspect the vicar? [...] Charles should have just killed the man". Others said they enjoyed seeing Charles' being "menacing".

And some viewers seemed to suspect that Charles could still murder Alex, with it possible that the latter won't actually leave the village despite suggesting that he would.

One person tweeted following the episode: "I mean, Charles as a killer vicar would be SUCH a good story". Another said: "Is there going to be another murdering vicar?"

"Go on Charles sort him out once and for all," wrote another viewer following the scenes. Another commented similarly, writing: "Go on Charles!! Shut him up for good."

Another tweeted this evening: "So this leaves the door open for Alex to return. Would of love to see the dark side of Charles, ruffle him up a bit, make him beg for mercy."

Emmerdale continues tomorrow (April 6) on ITV and ITVX from 7pm. Catch up on previous episodes through ITVX.
