Luton then took the lead in the match dubbed the 'richest game in football' as Jordan Clark broke into the box after excellent work from Elijah Adebayo before finishing past Ben Wilson in the Coventry goal to send their supporters into raptures.
Lockyer, who has made 14 appearances for Wales, joined Luton in 2020 and admitted that promotion to the Premier League would be a "dream come true."
"It's massive not just for me but the whole club and the whole city. And personally it is massive for me at my age - Premier League teams are not really shopping in the older age group," Lockyer said prior to the game.
"A chance to play in the Premier League is something you dream of as a kid. To be this close with almost one hand on it, it would be a shame not to reach it now."
