Murderer beat neighbour to death with bag of Pokemon cards after 'nonce' slur

Neighbours reported hearing a loud crash followed by Hague shouting: "You called me a ******* nonce. Come out here and fight like a man."

Prosecutor Laura Marshall said Hague and Mr Wilkinson had been involved in a verbal altercation with each other, during which Mr Wilkinson reportedly called Hague a “nonce *******”.

She said that, after telling Mr Wilkinson to “come out here and fight like a man”, Hague attacked him with a bag containing four or five tins of Pokemon cards.

The court was told Hague, who pleaded guilty to murder earlier this year, also had a history of mental health struggles as well as previous convictions for violent crime.  Describing the attack as "ferocious and brutal", judge Sarah Wright sentenced Hague to life with a minimum term of 17 years, before recommending that he be readmitted to Rampton secure hospital where he has received treatment since his arrest.

His mental illness was not severe enough for a defence of insanity or diminished responsibility, the court heard, however.  Judge Wright added that Hague had been "self-medicating" with cannabis and alcohol, which served as a "stark reminder" of the dangers of the drug's use in such circumstances.

Prosecutor Laura Marshall said Hague and Wilkinson had been involved in a verbal altercation with each other, during which Wilkinson reportedly called Hague a “nonce b------d”.
