Call The Midwife cast reunites as 'countdown begins' for season 13 filming

Call The Midwife is set to commence filming for the highly anticipated season 13 of the BBC show which is written by Heidi Thomas.

The drama's official Facebook account has shared a new photo of the cast gathered in London for a meal.

A caption attached to the photograph read: "Since our tumultuous season 12 finished airing at the end of February, our intrepid team have been grabbing the chance to rest up, relax, or else fit in some quick theatrical work before filming commences again!

"But today marked an important celebration – our team gathered at a plush venue in the west end of London for their first get-together before the cameras roll again and the scripts drop through the doors.

"We hear the producers organised the team a wonderful meal - there were speeches, lots of laughter and many reunion hugs!" (sic)

Heidi, alongside her husband Stephen McGann, Olly Rix, Meghan Cusack, Georgie Glen and Judy Parfitt were among the familiar faces in the snap.

Teasing fans about season 13, the caption continued: "Meanwhile, the costume fittings have begun, locations are being scouted, sets painted – all in readiness for our brand new collection of stories!

"The countdown begins!! Call the Midwife returns with a new Christmas Special and series 13 in 2024."

Call The Midwife viewers will recall season 12 saw Trixie Franklin (played by Helen George) tie the knot with the love of her life Matthew Aylward (Olly Rix).

Speaking on Instagram about the finale, Helen described it as: “Profound, romantic and community.”

She added: "The last show is really beautiful, a beautiful shot of all of the community and Matthew and Trixie, it’s a very special moment I think at the end.”

Seasons 14 and 15 have already been commissioned for Call The Midwife, so fans can look forward to watching the show until 2026.

Following the regular format, the upcoming seasons will have eight hour-long episodes as well as Christmas specials.

A launch date for season 13 is yet to be confirmed by BBC bosses but the Christmas special is due to this December.
