Kevin Clifton emotional and left 'shaking' over 'uncomfortable' family discovery

Kevin Clifton was visibly emotional and left "shaking" after he made a gruesome discovery about one of his great-great-great-grandparents in the latest episode of Who Do You Think You Are?

Kevin admitted to feeling "uncomfortable" as he read some extracts about what his great-great-great-grandfather put his great-great-great-grandmother through.

During the programme, the professional dancer went to Canada in a bid to delve into his family history and the first stop was an orphanage.

Kevin learned his great-great-grandmother, Emma Grace Elizabeth had been put into an orphanage when she was a child along with her siblings.

However, when discovering what happened to Emma's parents, he was told his great-great-great grandfather was 40 when he married Kevin's great-great-great-grandmother, Grace, who was 16 at the time.

"He was 40 and she was 16," Kevin reflected before being shown what they looked like.

"This is a picture of my great-great-great-grandparents...John and Grace and two of the three siblings and I don't know which one is which," he said.

"I can see they got married in January 1882, there are a few years when these two are together and having kids, and all of a sudden they have ended up in an orphanage."

Later on, Kevin read through some newspaper extracts to find out what happened to his great-great-great-grandmother, Grace.

He read out a court case where his great-great-great-grandfather admitted to "blackening" the eyes of Grace.

"It's weird because obviously, I am feeling for my great-great-great-grandmother right now," the dance pro stated.

"But then that guy who is a baddie to me is my great-great-great grandfather behaving like this.

"It is not comfortable to me, it's not comfortable at all."

Towards the end of the episode, Kevin said he was "shaking" and feeling emotional by the information he had found out about Grace.

He said: "Everything I have learned over the past two weeks about my family history going all the down through generations and ending up at me...none of that would have happened if Grace hadn't survived this."

"I can feel myself shaking at the moment," Kevin added. "I started this journey hearing the name Matooski but not even knowing she existed.

"I am really proud, I am a bit emotional actually, I am fighting it off a bit."

Kevin’s episode of Who Do You Think You Are? is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
