Love Island's Maya Jama 'may want to jump ship' as ratings tumble in huge blow

The 10th series of the ITV show started off with a huge twist as the boys and girls were brought in at the same time, a first in Love Island history.

Host Maya Jama then revealed the public had chosen who they were going to be coupled up with before re-entering later on in the episode to drop a massive bombshell on the islanders.

Pulling in 1.3 million viewers, ratings for the first episode took a suffering blow as they were a million down from last year and just a fraction of the 3.3 million audience it pulled in in 2019.

It looks as though this could be the last time ITV fans tune in to watch a summer of love as according to Casino En Ligne, odds for the show coming to an end stand at 10/1.

With the popularity seeming to decrease year on year, a spokesperson revealed Maya could step down as presenter ahead of its downfall.

They said: “The Love Island producers have got a text and it’s not good news.

“Millions of viewers are dumping the dating show and the latest odds reveal it’s 10/1 for the villa doors to be slammed shut for good.

“Maya Jama may want to jump ship as ratings tumble and she’s 2/1 to step away from hosting duties at the end of the summer series.”

Odds also reveal that ITV pulling the show completely, and not showing it on any of their platforms, stand at 3/1.

However, with odds of 12/1, Channel 4 is the channel most likely to pick Love Island up should it be axed.

Viewers were thrilled to see Maya back hosting the show after taking over from Laura Whitmore at the start of the year for the Winter edition of the show.

However, according to the latest viewing figures, the opening episode as a whole failed to impress fans.

Currently, the series has seen two bombshells enter the villa and cause a stir with heads being turned from their partners.

Zachariah chose to couple up with Catherine, stealing her away from her original partner Andre.

Although he didn’t stay sad for too long over being single as bombshell Whitney chose him to go on a date with, making it clear she’s taking a liking to him.

Love Island continues weeknights on ITV2 from 9pm.
