Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag has a plan to get extra £100m as three signings eyed

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag plans on selling seven players in this summer’s transfer window to raise as much as £100million, according to reports. The Dutchman is currently working on a strict budget at Old Trafford. And he’s keen to make signings in attack, midfield and defence as he looks to win the Premier League title next season.

Manchester United are having to be careful with their finances this summer.

And The Mirror say Ten Hag is prepared to cut six players loose so he can use the funds on bolstering his squad.

It’s claimed the United boss is willing to offload Harry Maguire, who has blown hot and cold ever since moving from Leicester in 2019.

Anthony Martial, who has been at Old Trafford for eight years now, is another player set to be shown the door.

Much-maligned duo Fred and Scott McTominay have been deemed surplus to requirements, with the pair being linked with Fulham and Newcastle respectively.

And United are prepared to part ways with Donny van de Beek and Anthony Elanga, too, with the pair struggling to make their mark.

The report says there’s still a chance David De Gea will stay at the club.

The Spain international is due to become a free agent on Friday, when his contract is due to expire.

United are, however, still in talks with De Gea over extending his stay at the club.

They want their No 1 to accept a pay cut, with the Red Devils offering the stalwart £200,000—a-week in their last pitch.

De Gea and his entourage feel Ten Hag has other priorities, rather than signing a new first-choice No 1.

And it’s also claimed the Dutchman wants at least three signings as he looks to guide his side to greater heights.

He wants to improve his defence, as well as his midfield.

Mason Mount is a priority target for the club, though Chelsea want as much as £65million to let their academy graduate leave.

And United are also determined to bring in a new centre-forward as well.

Signing Harry Kane is described as being ‘unrealistic’, however, unless Tottenham drop their demands for their talisman.

That’s unlikely to happen, with Daniel Levy refusing to sell a single player to United since Dimitar Berbatov in 2008.

Meanwhile, United legend Dwight Yorke has his say on where the Red Devils must strengthen.

And he believes they must do everything they can to bring Kane or Kylian Mbappe to the club.

“I don’t think Erik ten Hag has much time to try and make up that gap between Manchester United and Manchester City,” he said.

“Even though Manchester United have had a decent season, I felt they were still someway short, and until they fill that number 9 spot, that becomes a bit of an issue.

“I think the uncertainty with the takeover is always going to put in an element of doubt, but if I were to choose, then Kylian Mbappe would be my first choice without question.

“He’s young, obviously he’s unproven in the Premier League but he’s got class and quality and will be there for the next seven years.

“In that period, I’m sure he would bring success to United.

“For me, Mbappe would be a no brainer, but until the question of where the club is going and who will take over from the Glazers is solved, there will be big question marks, because that’s the only way the club would afford him.

“Harry Kane also fits the bill – if they are trying to get closer to challenging for the Premier League over the next two or three years, then he would be another ideal candidate.”
