Qatari Man Utd takeover 'accepted' as Sheikh Jassim to buy club in days says Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand claims Sheikh Jassim's bid to buy his former club has been accepted. The ex-defender says official news regarding the takeover could be made public in the coming days.

The takeover saga at United has been ongoing for several months. The current owners the Glazers first put the club up for sale last November.

As bidding begun, it quickly emerged that Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim and INEOS founder, and United fan, Sir Jim Ratcliffe were the two leading candidates. After several rounds of bidding, it still remained unclear who the Glazers would prefer to sell to.

But it appears a resolution is now edging closer. Ferdinand took to his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand Presents Five, early on Thursday afternoon to provide an update.

He claimed he and his team had received major news regarding the takeover. Ferdinand says Sheikh Jassim's bid has finally been accepted by the Glazers.

He said: "Man Utd takeover is imminent. We're hearing the Qatari bid is the one that is taking over, it is the one that's being accepted and it's the one that is going to go through.

"Hallelujah man, we can't wait. Please let this happen, please let it be true. Look how long this has gone on for, the Glazers have dug their heels in and they're going [for] obviously it seems the biggest bidder, the person with the most money is going to get the club, which is normal in negotiations but they've certainly dragged their heels."

Ferdinand is delighted by the development, claiming an official announcement could come soon. He hopes it can help his old club succeed in this summer's transfer market after the window officially opened on Wednesday.

Ferdinand added: "I just wanted this to be sorted out and resolved before the transfer window really kicks in. We're getting to that point now where the transfer window is opening, moves are starting to happen, things are starting to develop and there's big stuff going on.

"The takeover bid from the Qataris is something we've been waiting for for a long time. We're hearing that it's close, we're hearing that it's in a matter of days that it's going to happen, if not hours.

"Fingers crossed this is right, fingers crossed this information is really, really true and we can get it going. I've got it from a good source that it is true."
