Ricky Gervais' partner Jane Fallon shares heartbreak as sister dies after cancer battle

Ricky Gervais' author partner Jane Fallon has confirmed her sister Gerry has tragically died after battling cancer.

Jane shared the sad news on Twitter, alongside a photo of her and her sister smiling together.

The writer told fans alongside broken heart and love heart emojis: "My lovely sister, Gerry, passed away at the weekend.

"Here we are last year when she was in the middle of chemo, but loving the straight wig after a lifetime of curls."

Jane was quickly inundated with support from many of her 139,000 followers.

One person wrote: "Im so sorry to hear Jane, sending you so much love- thoughts and prayers with you and Ricky xx."

Former EastEnders actress Tamzin Outhwaite added: "Sending love and light jane, so sorry xx."

A third Twitter user commented: "Oh Jane. All strength to you. x."

Ricky is currently touring his sell-out stand-up comedy show, Armageddon.

Ricky and Jane have been in a relationship sincce 1982, but have opted not to marry.

The After Life actor and writer previously explained: "There's no point in us having an actual ceremony before the eyes of God because there is no God."

The couple first met when they were studying at University College London, prior to Ricky's rise to fame as a comedian.

They moved in together after two years of dating in 1984.

Ricky and Jane also decided not to have children together, with The Office writer saying: "Too much hassle. Not something either of us wanted to do.

"We just ... didn't fancy dedicating 16 years of our lives. And there are too many children, of course."

Jane also shared she never regretted deciding against starting a family.

The author told The Guardian: "I've never regretted not having kids. Even as a child, I found it hard to imagine being a mum. I didn't want to have children because doing so just didn't feel like me.
