Young Italian cyclist dies in Austria stage race


(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 22 - A young Italian cyclist died in Austria during the first stage of the Junioren Rundfahrt on Friday, his team said on Saturday.
    17-year-old Jacopo Venzo from Cartigliano near Vicenza died after coming off his bike during a descent, according to a Facebook post from Campana Imballaggi Geo&Tex Trentino.
    He was taken to hospital but died later from his injuries.
    The stage race has been cancelled.
    Venzo "was an extraordinary boy, with a future to be written in sport and above all in life," said his team.
    "Campana Imballaggi Geo&Tex Trentino embraces his family, friends and all those who loved Jacopo in this moment of immense pain. Now we have one more angel watching over us up there.
    Goodbye Jacopo, thank you for the great times we spent together.
    You cannot imagine how much we will miss you," it continued.
