Arsenal news: Timber transfer replacement turned down as private Gabriel message revealed

Here is your morning Arsenal digest on Wednesday, August 30.

Timber replacement turned down

Arsenal have turned down the chance to sign Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson as a potential replacement for the injured Jurrien Timber, according to the Express.

Summer signing Timber is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining an ACL injury against Nottingham Forest earlier this month. It is claimed that the Gunners have since been offered the chance to sign Nelsson during exploratory transfer talks.

But the north Londoners are said to have decided against a deal for the Danish international.

Gabriel message

Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has revealed that Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes messaged him following some criticism from the former England international.

“I said that last year,” Rio Ferdinand told his YouTube channel when asked if Gabriel being dropped in recent times was due to his past mistakes. “And he didn’t like it. He DM’d me. In the DM’s.

“This is a big thing, for me, with players today, they can’t take criticism. Players today, not all of them, I have had quite a few players who have come through their agents."

Raya deal criticised

Former Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has lamented Arsenal's decision to sign David Raya, claiming that it will only worsen Aaron Ramsdale's confidence.

"I hate it, it’s pathetic," Foster told his YouTube channel when asked about the impact that Raya joining will have on Ramsdale. "It’s something that didn’t need to happen, right.

"They did not need to sign David Raya. [Ramsdale has] been a top goalie for two years. He’s on the edge of being England’s No.1 with Jordan Pickford, he’s right there.

"When he’s full of confidence and he’s got a manager putting his arm around him, he’s as good as anyone in this country."
