Bayern Munich chief defends Spanish FA president for kissing World Cup star on the lips

“In the moment, we saw it as natural, but outside a commotion has formed. I have to apologise, learn from this, and understand that when you are president you have to be more careful."

Hermoso, who had her penalty saved by Lioness Mary Earps in the second half that would have put Spain into a 2-0 lead, initially said she “did not enjoy it” on Instagram live in the dressing room during their post-match celebrations, but later played down the incident in a statement given to the Spanish federation.

"It was a totally spontaneous mutual gesture because of the immense joy that winning a World Cup brings,” she said in an attempt to draw a line under the matter. "The president and I have a great relationship, his behaviour with all of us has been outstanding and it was a natural gesture of affection and gratitude."
