Daniel Levy sent £50m Tottenham transfer message as Postecoglou told what to do for Richarlison

Danny Murphy believes that Tottenham will not sign a striker better than Richarlison for under £50million in what remains of the summer transfer window. Struggling to make an impact at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season with three separate injuries disrupting his campaign, the Brazilian is now leading the line for Spurs in wake of Harry Kane's move to Bayern Munich.

Working hard but having very little joy in front of goal, the 26-year-old didn't even manage a shot on target in his 70 minutes on the pitch in last Saturday's 2-0 win over Manchester United. Always going to be judged on his goal output as he is a forward, many Tottenham fans have their concerns over Richarlison as their main striker and scoring on a regular basis like Kane did previously.

Now with the summer transfer deadline only a week away, Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham will soon start to run out of time to bring another forward into the club. Murphy believes that patience is required and Richarlison can be "really productive" for Tottenham if his link-up play with James Maddison, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski is allowed to grow.

"I think there needs to be some patience," said Murphy in an exclusive interview with football.london, courtesy of Full Circle with bet365. "I think you see a lot of games now where the centre-forward does not have a lot of the ball. We saw these stats, continually, about Haaland not touching the ball and only having this chance and how many shots etc, but he keeps scoring. Now, I'm not putting Richarlison in [Erling] Haaland's league, but I'm just giving an example of how stats can be manipulated to make a centre-forward’s game look poor.

"What Richarlison does is play the role quite well as he stays high, stays in position, presses great and he makes good runs. I think you have to let his link-up play with [James] Maddison, Son [Heung-min] and [Dejan] Kulusevski grow.

"If you think you're going to get a striker who is better than Richarlison for under £50million, I'm not sure that's going to happen. Let's not forget Richarlison scored double figures at Everton nearly every season he was there in a team that was fighting relegation.

"Whether you like Richarlison or not, his antics, behaviour and social media, I don't care about that because I like him as a footballer. He's got character and I like the way he plays. I'm not someone who thinks you should try knock that out of him.

"If I was a Tottenham fan I would be getting right behind him because if he gets going and starts scoring a few, he could be really productive. I'm not one of those doubters as I think if you stick with him he'll be fine."

Richarlison will be hoping to open his Tottenham account for the season on Saturday when the team travel to Bournemouth. Away games at Fulham and Burnley then follow the trip to the Vitality Stadium before the Premier League pauses for the first international break of the season.
