When Arsenal must register new signing for debut vs Man Utd if next transfer deal agreed

By the time Arsenal welcome Manchester United to the Emirates Stadium this weekend, the summer transfer window will have been shut for one full day.

Therefore, the senior squad at Mikel Arteta's disposal for the first half of the season will be in place. Now, there's still time for the Spaniard to finalise those plans and the focus between now and deadline day - this Friday - is player sales with the Gunners open to offers for Rob Holding, Cedric Soares, Arthur Okonkwo, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nicolas Pepe.

But should the aforementioned defenders all depart one way or another, Arsenal may need to bring in defensive reinforcements as this scenario would leave them down to six natural options in this area who are available for selection - after Jurrien Timber's injury and Kieran Tierney's loan to Real Sociedad.

A prospect that is something of a gamble given Oleksandr Zinchenko's not-so-great injury record. And with Takehiro Tomiyasu almost certainly departing for up to a month in the new year when the 2023 AFC Asian Cup gets underway in January, perhaps Arteta and sporting director Edu Gaspar will look to get one more signing through the door.

If that's the case then, there is a chance that the Arsenal manager will have the option of handing out another debut - after Timber, Kai Havertz and Declan Rice - against Manchester United on Sunday - but only if one condition is met around 50 hours before kick-off in N5.

As per the Premier League regulations, a statement reads: "Subject to the provisions of Rule V.1, the deadline for receipt by the Board of all duly completed documents required by these Rules to effect the registration of a Player shall be 12 noon on the last Working Day before the date of the first League Match in which the Club making the application intends him to play, save that the international transfer certificate and evidence of eligibility to take up employment in the United Kingdom (in both cases if applicable) may be provided thereafter (but must be provided before the Player is eligible to play for a Club in a League Match)."

This means that the Gunners will have to register any new signing(s), by 12pm on Friday, September 1 to have them available for selection against Erik ten Hag's side. Now, this may pose something of an issue given this deadline falls on transfer deadline day thus presenting a race against the clock.

In the event of Arsenal completing a deal before the window officially closes at 11pm unless the transfer is sealed before the aforementioned deadline, that player will not face the Red Devils and will therefore have to wait until after the international break against Everton to make his debut.

In truth, as things currently stand, there's no sign of any potential incomings at the Emirates Stadium with the focus on getting players through the door. So it's looking like Arteta will choose from the same pool of players - including Takehiro Tomiyas following suspension - that featured against Fulham for the game at home to Man United.
