Agents vote the worst Premier League signing of summer transfer window amid shock Arsenal claim

Footballing agents have voted Arsenal's deal to sign Kai Havertz as the worst Premier League transfer of the summer, as per a survey conducted by the Athletic.

The Gunners spent £65million to recruit Havertz from London rivals Chelsea back in June, a deal that raised a few eyebrows among supporters and pundits alike. Since then, the German international has received plenty of criticism, some perhaps harshly, for his displays in an Arsenal shirt.

Now, six of the 20 agents named the 24-year-old as the worst signing of the summer window, marginally ahead of Chelsea's deal to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion. One agent said: "Havertz…I don’t get it. I’ve never got it. I don’t think he was needed.

"It’s the luckiest agent in the world to have done that deal and the player to have not had to move very far geographically. I would have said that before the season started. When you’re watching (now), you see a lack of quality and confidence. He might prove me wrong, but for that amount of money — terrible deal.”

Havertz addressed the negativity surrounding him whilst on international duty with Germany, claiming that he tries to remain positive amidst all the noise. "Sure, things like that keep you busy," he replied when asked about the criticism he has been facing since arriving at the Emirates Stadium.

“But I’ve often had a phase and that you often only see the negative. It’s not the first club where I’m starting over. Of course, you want to be successful as quickly as possible, but I know that there are phases like that.

"I try to approach it in a relaxed manner.”
