Arsenal considering fresh contract termination on transfer deadline day after prolonged talks

Arsenal are considering terminating Nicolas Pepe's contract ahead of the summer transfer window deadline, according to the Daily Mail.

Mikel Arteta's side are struggling to find a suitor for Pepe, who spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan in Ligue with OGC Nice. But he failed to impress during his time in France and is now finding it difficult to find a new club.

The Ivory Coast international has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract at the Emirates Stadium and the north London outfit are now said to be contemplating cutting their losses early. football.london reported back in June that although the Gunners were keen to garner a fee for Pepe, plans have been made for the termination of his contract if required.

The now-28 year old joined Arsenal for a then-club-recorded fee of £72million. Despite some flashes of brilliance, the talented winger struggled for consistency in the Premier League and eventually lost his starting spot to Hale End academy graduate Bukao Saka.

Gunners boss Arteta was asked about Pepe's situation earlier this summer after leaving the winger out of the pre-season squad. he "At the moment he is recovering from an injury which is why he’s not here," the Spaniard explained at the time.

"He had a spell on loan and obviously we wanted to get much more than we got from that loan spell. We have to see when we come back, understand what the plans are and make the right decision for him."
