Brennan Johnson makes Arsenal North London Derby vow and discusses Tottenham shirt number choice

Brennan Johnson will be counting down the days until he can make his Tottenham debut. Joining the Lilywhites in a deal worth £47.5million on transfer deadline day, his move from Nottingham Forest came too late for him to feature for his new club in their Premier League clash at Burnley on Saturday.

Now on international duty with Wales as they prepare for fixtures against South Korea and Latvia, Johnson will be doing all he can to force his way into Ange Postecoglou's team to face Sheffield United upon his return to Hotspur Way. Once Spurs have come up against the Blades at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, September 16, they face a very tricky end to the month with the North London Derby and a home encounter with Liverpool on the agenda.

The first North London Derby of the campaign will take place at the Emirates Stadium once again, with Spurs intent on gaining some revenge for their 3-1 defeat at Arsenal last season. Potentially a game Johnson could start if he seizes his opportunity against Sheffield United, the showdown against Mikel Arteta's men is the fixture he is looking forward to and, most importantly, one he is ready for.

"The derby. It's coming up as well, so that's one that will be surreal for me," said Johnson when speaking in a video on SPURSPLAY that goes behind the scenes of his move to Tottenham. "It's not a long time after [the international break]. It'll feel crazy but I'm ready for it."

Another talking point during the video is regarding the player's Tottenham shirt number. Wearing No.20 at Nottingham Forest but unable to inherit the number at Spurs with Fraser Forster in possession of it, Johnson instead plumped for No.22.

It is a number he does like, however, having previously requested it at the City Ground only to find it was already taken by one of his teammates.

"To be honest when I was at Forest when I first got No.20, I did want No.22 there and one of the boys had it," he explained "I like the number and I think it's a nice, clean looking number."

One Tottenham player who played a part in Johnson's move to the capital was Ben Davies. Teammates on the international stage, the left-sided defender's words about the club quite clearly sold the move to the winger.

"I spoke to Ben who said unbelievable things about the club and was really positive with me," revealed Johnson. "Everyone I’ve spoken to feels like it's the right time to join the club because it's on a forward trajectory so I'm really excited to come here now."
