Frank Leboeuf has told Todd Boehly to sign a striker and an experienced midfielder in the January transfer window. Chelsea heavily invested in several high-profile players during the summer, with the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer arriving at Stamford Bridge.

However, all of the new faces brought to Cobham training ground by Mauricio Pochettino have been no older than 25 and Leboeuf believes that was a grave mistake which has cost the Blues greatly. In an interview with CasinosEnLigne, the former Chelsea defender said: "Chelsea need a striker and an experienced midfielder.

"I said last season that Mitrovic would be good – he's not world-class, but he's a leader and a fighter. Victor Osimhen is having problems at Napoli, and maybe Chelsea can go for him in January.

"There's also Nantes' Mostafa Mohamed – I think he could do a good job. Chelsea also need help in midfield, someone like Toni Kroos or Luka Modric. They may be older and not play as many games, but they could definitely serve the club well."

One player who has put Premier League clubs on red alert recently is Osimhen. Napoli posted a strange video on TikTok which appeared to make fun of the 24-year-old striker after he missed a penalty during the Italian giants' Serie A clash against Bologna at the weekend.

Following Napoli's win over Udinese on Wednesday night, Rudi Garcia played down speculation that Osimhen faces an uncertain future at the club despite the off-field controversy.

"I have had a very good rapport with Victor since the moment I arrived," the Napoli boss told DAZN, as per Football Italia. "I am happy because he scored a goal and centre-forwards always want to score goals.

"In Bologna we were all frustrated at not winning and he was even more after missing a penalty, so that can happen. We cleared the air, it all went back to normal."

football.london understands that Chelsea were keen on the Nigeria international in the summer, but Nicolas Jackson was signed from Villarreal instead. It's believed that the Blues viewed Osimhen as somebody who could have transformed their misfortunes in front of goal but, without Champions League qualification, any bid to sign him proved difficult.
