Chelsea legend John Terry set for managerial breakthrough in huge blow to Blues youth ranks

[ UK TV LIVE ]

Chelsea legend John Terry looks set to make his first managerial breakthrough as recent reports claim he could be set to land his first big job.

It comes nearly five-years since the defender retired from professional football, most of which he spent at Stamford Bridge with the Blues. In his time at the club, Terry went on to become captain and earned a whole plethora of trophies that cemented his status as an icon.

The 42-year-old won five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups, one Champions League and one Europa League over a spell that lasted nearly 20-years. After his time with Chelsea, Terry left for Aston Villa, where he would eventually move into coaching.

A move into being assistant coach alongside Dean Smith saw the Villans make a return to the Premier League, before the manager was dismissed. He made a return to Chelsea for a short while then reunited with Smith in a stint at the back end of last season to try and keep Leicester City away from relegation.

Once that spell ended, Terry came back to Cobham, where he has been working as an academy coach ever since. That looks set to change in a huge blow to the club and their coaching setup though, if recent reports are to be believed.

According to a report from the Sun, Terry is set to make his managerial bow with Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab FC as talks have been held over a move. The former England international is believed to have verbally agreed to a stunning offer that will see him join Steven Gerrard in managing in the division.

It continues a huge recruitment drive from the Saudi Pro League since a host of clubs were taken over by the kingdom's Public Investment Fund - who also own Newcastle United. They have invested heavily into the sporting infrastructure in the nation to attract big stars, with plenty of criticism from some corners claiming it is sportswashing.
