Declan Rice praise

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has opened up on his love for summer signing Declan Rice. The Gunners recruited the England international from West Ham United during the summer transfer window, signing him for a club-record fee of £105million.

Since then, Rice has hit the ground running in north London, delivering consistent performances in the centre of the park, earning the club's Player of the Month Award for August in the process. Now, Petit has hailed the 24-year-old's impact on Mikel Arteta's side, admitting that he was desperate for his former club to sign Rice before they eventually pulled the trigger this summer.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Petit said: "I’m in love with this guy. Before he arrived at Arsenal I was begging Arsenal to sign him for two, three years already.

“I think this guy is a natural-born leader and he has so many qualities, he shows so much maturity and composure on the pitch and this is exactly what Arsenal needed for ages. For so many years, [Bukayo] Saka and [Thomas] Partey have done a great job last season.

“But I remember when Arsenal used to win titles and fight for the big prizes, there were always so many great holding midfielders so I think Rice is the perfect player for Arsenal.”

Aaron Ramsdale disagreement

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher clashed with Manchester United icon Peter Schmeichel during a debate regarding Arsenal goalkeepers Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya. Speaking during CBS Sports' coverage of the game between the Gunners and PSV, Schmeichel asked his fellow pundit: "Do you think Raya is a better goalkeeper than Ramsdale? Because I don't."

Carragher then replied: "100 per cent (Raya is better). Arsenal will never win the league with Ramsdale in goal, no chance."

The former England centre-half also added: "Ramsdale is playing for Arsenal and he can't even get in the England team."
