Tottenham news: Ange Postecoglou reveals Rodrigo Bentancur return date as £47.5m transfer sealed

Your morning Tottenham Hotspur digest on Saturday, September 2.

Late business

Tottenham have completed the deadline day signing of Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest. The Wales international has penned a long-term deal until 2029 in north London and will wear the number 22 shirt.

Johnson arrives at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for £47.5m, with no add-ons, after spending his whole career in the Midlands.

His arrival makes him signing number nine of the summer in north London following the arrivals of James Maddison, Micky van den Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Alejo Veliz and Ashley Phillips. Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski also made their initial loan moves permanent earlier in the window.

Reguilon departs

Sergio Reguilon completed his season-long loan move to Manchester United on deadline day.

Erik ten Hag's men have had a crisis at left-back recently due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, thus seeing them turn to Reguilon to boost their options in that area of the pitch.

Providing that United have registered the signing of Reguilon with the Premier League by midday on Friday, he could make his bow for the club in Sunday's showdown against Arsenal.

Bentancur return boost

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that he expects Rodrigo Bentancur to return to action for Spurs in November. The Uruguayan has been out of action since February when he had surgery on a ruptured cruciate ligament.

Bentancur was a star for Spurs last season before the campaign-ending injury against Leicester.

"There's not a defined [comeback date] but he is getting closer. I think probably around November time, we’d be looking to reintegrate him into it," said Postecoglou. "He’s ticking all the boxes so far. He’s really keen.

"He came to see me yesterday wanting to train and within a minute I had one of the medical team running behind him to collar him and drag him out. He’s definitely keen and it’ll be great to get him back because his contribution when he first came to the club was outstanding.

"In many respects he'll be like another new signing for us, which is great but we won't rush it. It’s obviously a significant injury so we're probably looking around that timescale."
