Who are Alex Matos and Ronnie Stutter? Chelsea youngsters make bench against Bournemouth


Chelsea make their return to Premier League footall against Bournemouth and already surprises have been sprung. Ben Chilwell has dropped to Mauricio Pochettino's bench with Mykhailo Mudryk starting, but it does not appear as if the Blues boss' injuries worries have eased.

Neither Moises Caicedo or Noni Madueke have made the squad for the trip to the Vitality Stadium after returning from international duty. That means a young bench on Sunday afternoon.

Summer signings Cole Palmer, Djordje Petrovic and Deivid Washington are among the subsitutes, but two surprise names come from the Blues' development squad. Alex Matos and Ronnie Stutter make their first apperance on the first team bench against the Cherries.

As such, football.london takes a brief look at each.

Who is Alex Matos?

The 18-year-old joined Chelsea in the summer following the end of his contract at Norwich and swiftly found himself involved in the club's development team. Matos has started each of Chelsea's Premier League 2 matches so far this season in the centre of midfield but also has the ability to play further forward, and on the right, featuring once at right back in pre-season.

"I'm a forward who can play anywhere in the front line," Matos said last year. "My pace is probably my best attribute, getting into the box and creating chances, it’s a big part of my game."

Who is Ronnie Stutter?

The young forward has been a consistent presence in Chelsea under-21 forward line this term and has taken to the role well. The 18-year-old has lead the line alongside Jimmy-Jay Morgan following Mason Burstow's graduation and has netted five times in four Premier League 2 matches.

Stutter has been with the Blues after leaving West Ham at the end of his under-14 season and has bounced back from injuries in the 2021/22 season and captained the under-18s on occasion last term.
