Chelsea told they made brilliant transfer decision on Arsenal 'enigma' ahead of derby clash

Former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf and ex-Blues and Arsenal defender William Gallas have both claimed that Kai Havertz was a 'problem' for Chelsea and is continuing to be a problem for Mikel Arteta ahead of their London derby this weekend.

The German international will return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since his summer exit to north London, a move that cost the Gunners £65 million. Despite his hefty price tag, the star is yet to truly make an impact on their season so far.

He scored his first - and currently only - goal for Arsenal from the penalty spot in a 4-0 win over Bournemouth earlier this month before providing the assist for the winning goal against Manchester City before the international break.

Despite that, former Blues and Gunners defender Gallas claims he's done 'nothing' to warrant his place in Arteta's lineup for the weekend, as he told Lord Ping: "I’m not impressed with Kai Havertz so far. He's done nothing since he joined Arsenal.

"He may have scored, but that was only because Martin Odegaard let him take a penalty! Havertz hasn’t done anything yet, and I think he’s in trouble.

"I don’t think Arsenal should have signed Kai Havertz. I think that was a mistake. If you spent £60million on a striker, you expect them to score at least 15 goals in a season! I don’t think that’ll happen.

"Arsenal don’t have time! The season may be long, but clubs need results straight away. Havertz was at Chelsea for three years and knows the Premier League well.

'It may take a while to settle into a new team, but he already lived in London! Players need to adapt immediately – they don’t have time."

Leboeuf also chimed in with his thoughts on the star's exit from Chelsea and subsequent move to Arsenal, believing that Havertz creates more issues within the squad than he solves due to his positional needs. He also claims that his inconsistency will come back to bite Arsenal soon.

"That guy’s an enigma, they don’t know where to put him. That’s the problem, his inconsistency at the top level," Leboeuf told the Metro earlier this week.

"That’s why I say he’s better on the bench because Arteta didn’t find any solution to put him at his best. Everything was organised very well at Arsenal last season.

"We knew the midfielders, we knew the strikers, everything. And because of his price tag, you have to play him but that’s disorganised the team. You have the striker – [Eddie] Nketiah or [Gabriel] Jesus – and then you have [Bukayo] Saka, [Gabriel] Martinelli or [Leandro] Trossard on the wings. You don’t need him up front.

"In the middle of the park, because you have [Martin] Odegaard you need two strong midfielders to get the ball back. So, you don’t need him. So, you have created issues and problems because you hired him. He has a talent for sure when he’s at his best. But right now, he’s more a problem than a solution.

"That’s why I say he’d be better on the bench because Arteta didn’t find any solution to put him at his best and to make sure it doesn’t affect the team. Right now, Havertz on the field affects the condition and the rhythm of the team.

"I was happy to see Havertz leave Chelsea because he was the same problem. You have to sacrifice players to put Havertz in. That’s the problem."
