Chelsea's striker 'better than Erling Haaland and Harry Kane' amid Nkunku message to Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino could have an option at his disposal revealed to be more reliable in front of goal than Harry Kane and Erling Haaland. Both strikers scoring a combined 66 Premier League goals last season, with Haaland beating his fellow striker by six goals to cap off an excellent debut season in England.

Understandably, given their quality, they have also made a superb start in front of goal to the new season with each player on eight league goals already. Further showcasing their finishing abilities, prior to the weekend drubbing of Burnley, Chelsea had less league goals as a team on seven than both Kane and Haaland individually.

However, a new leaf appears to have been turned at Stamford Bridge with the Blues heading into the October international break off the back of three consecutive wins. The injury to Christopher Nkunku looked to have heavily affected plans in the early weeks of the season with Nicolas Jackson struggling to hit the ground running and Armando Broja still recovering from a knee injury.

Last Monday, against Fulham, Broja was handed his first start in over nine months with the 22-year-old on target in a 2-0 London Derby triumph. As a result he was again in from the off against Burnley, however Jackson, who missed the Fulham clash through suspension, came on in his place at half time as he continues to get his match fitness up.

The Senegal international scored the fourth goal of the afternoon and his third since signing for the Blues in the second period, proving that both he and Broja can have an impact in the absence of Nkunku. However, former Chelsea midfielder Frank Leboeuf believes otherwise.

"I pray for Nkunku to come back very, very soon because Broja, I’m not convinced yet," he told ESPN FC. "And he comes back from injury, so it takes time. Jackson, yeah, he’s getting better. But what I saw from Nkunku for several years, that will make a frontline very competitive."

While Nkunku could certainly become the man to fire in the goals for Chelsea that match the likes of Kane and Haaland, Chelsea already have one on their books. Since his second consecutive loan move to Serie A, this time with AS Roma, Romelu Lukaku has scored seven goals in eight games with a brace coming in the 4-1 win against Cagliari Calcio on Sunday evening.

A recent report from SportingPedia figured out which of the 16 top goalscorers from the 2023/24 season is the most reliable so far, with Lukaku making the top five. According to their report, the Belgian striker has a 75% goal-scoring success rate in his matches from this campaign.

Kane and Haaland come in nearer the bottom with 65% and 41.7%, respectively. The only four seen as more reliable than Lukaku are Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy (88%), new Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham (80%) and Feyenoord attacker Santiago Gimenez (77.78%).
