Gary Neville makes early Tottenham claim as Spurs eye huge Premier League title fight

Tottenham's start to life under Ange Postecoglou has been near perfection for supporters as the new boss has had an instant impact on and off the pitch. On the turf, they are earning results every week and on top of that, they're putting on exciting performances to match it.

Away from the action, followers of the club are the happiest they've been in a while as they've been treated to not only great football, but a head coach that seems to understand them. The side, who currently top the table after seven wins and two draws, are within an early shout of being among the Premier League title challengers.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City are expected to be the main contenders, but the start from Spurs has shaken things up so far. While there's concerns over squad depth and potential performances in the weeks to come, with each win that passes they are a step closer to being involved.

It was something mentioned by Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports in the victory over Fulham on Monday, where he said: "I think most Spurs supporters you listen to, are not getting carried away. I think they will be delighted with the Champions League positions but when you look at Antonio Conte’s start last season, they were in a great position this time last year, but there wasn’t the same excitement and energy around Spurs.

"It’s not just about the results, it’s about the football they are playing and the fact Tottenham supporters are going to the game and looking forward to watching their team play, rather than being a grind for them, not just under Conte, but maybe under Jose (Mourinho) and Nuno (Espirito Santo) - they are all a certain type of manager and that’s where the excitement comes from."

That has led to Tottenham being the surprise package many didn't expect, with that time needed to gel and understand the system seemingly sped up. That was certainly something that resonated with former Manchester United defender Gary Neville in his early review of the league so far.

As part of a question and answer session on social media, the pundit was asked which side had surprised him the most in the opening few games. Neville responded simply by saying Tottenham, which was met with large agreement from the majority of his comments too.

It remains to be seen whether that surprise can last all the way to the title in May, which is a farfetched thought for some, but every win is one closer to a potential battle for the trophy.
