Mikel Arteta gives scary Bukayo Saka update as Arsenal star suffers injury ahead of Man City

Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the injury suffered by Bukayo Saka that saw him taken off in the Champions League defeat to RC Lens. The 22-year-old was a doubt heading into the clash but he was named in the starting XI despite hobbling off in the last two Premier League games against Tottenham and Bournemouth.

Ahead of a decisive clash against Manchester City to come a few days after the visit to France to take on Lens, many were hoping for a Saka rest. However, with Arsenal aiming to win the game, Saka started and Arteta was made to regret that risky decision.

With 33 minutes on the clock, Saka fell to the floor holding his hamstring with the Hale End graduate alerting Arteta to his issue moments before. No chances were taken by the Gunners though, as Fabio Vieira immediately got ready to come on. In the second half, Saka was seen making his way back out to the Arsenal dugout.

From that position Saka would have seen his side fall to their first defeat of the season with Elye Wahi, who Arsenal and Chelsea have both looked at in previous windows, scoring the decisive goal. With Saka coming off and Arsenal losing, it could not have gone much worse for Arteta and he has provided the latest on his star man after the game and ahead of Man City.

Speaking to TNT Sports, he said: "It wasn't an action, it was a back heel and he felt something and he wasn't comfortable to continue." When asked if he knew how severe the issue was, Arteta simply shook his head. If Saka is out, it will be a huge blow to the Gunners ahead of what is undoubtedly their biggest Premier League game of the season. Arteta also spoke to TV Sport 2 where his diagnosis of Saka's injury was far more worrying. He said: "It doesn’t look good.”
