Arsenal and Chelsea handed fresh Amadou Onana transfer update as Everton challenge emerges

Everton star Amadou Onana has offered a fresh update on his future at Goodison Park as he continues to be linked with a move to Arsenal and Chelsea. Manchester United and Liverpool are also among the clubs said to be monitoring the 22-year-old's situation at Everton.

The Belgian midfielder is capable of playing in a defensive, box-to-box or attacking role and he has impressed during his time with the Toffees. Onana's current deal is not set to expire until 2027 - but Everton face the risk of being punished for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations - which could see them need to sell their star players to avoid a points deduction.

Despite top clubs keeping tabs on Onana, the 22-year-old has set his sights on becoming the best player in Sean Dyche's squad instead. “I am truly convinced that there are no upper limits for me," the Everton midfielder told Transfermarkt.

"That doesn't mean to sound arrogant, but I believe in my abilities and that I can come to a top club and become a regular player there. Clubs came knocking, but I wanted to stay to develop further and become a top player at Everton, perhaps the best.”

The 22-year-old spoke about the constant rumours linking him with a move away, admitting: “I try to read almost nothing about it and keep it as far away from me as possible. I just want to concentrate on what's important."

Arsenal are looking to reinforce their midfield options in January - having been linked with Onana and Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz. football.london understands that another player they are looking at is Martin Zubimendi.

The Spanish international has been of interest for a while now and has a €60million release clause in his contract. However, it is thought that he is happy at Real Sociedad and not looking to move in January as things stand.

Meanwhile, Chelsea added Moises Caicedo to their ranks in the summer - just eight months after signing Enzo Fernandez. Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu were also brought to Stamford Bridge which may see the Blues focus on other areas of Mauricio Pochettino's squad - instead of looking to sign Onana.
