Jurrien Timber provides timely Arsenal injury update as Mikel Arteta handed Lens boost

Arsenal star Jurrien Timber has taken to social media to update fans on his ongoing injury rehabilitation process. The Dutch international was signed from Ajax during the summer transfer window, enjoying an excellent pre-season before delivering a solid display during his side's Community Shield victory over Manchester City back in August.

However, the 22-year-old then sustained an ACL injury on his Premier League debut just a week later, a major blow to Mikel Arteta's side. Now, Timber has posted a collection of videos and pictures on his Instagram, with one showing him jogging lightly on a treadmill.

Others show the versatile defender working hard, stretching in the gym. The caption to the post read: "#ProjectComeback Vol 2 Putting the work in (Running emoji)."

Gunners supporters will be desperate for the youngster to return to full fitness as soon as possible, with their side light of options at the back. In fact, when Takehiro Tomiyasu heads to the Asian Cup in January, Arteta will only have six first-team defenders at his disposal, one of those being Cedric Soares, who has made just one appearance this season.

When asked if Timber will soon return to the grass last week, the Gunners boss said: "Well I hope so. He’s been for a few walks out on the field.

"He’s still a bit far from competing but he’s in a good place." Fellow defender Ben White had missed the north Londoners' 3-1 victory over Burnley earlier this month due to a muscle issue, football.london understands.

However, the England international returned to action in the latter stages of Saturday's 1-0 win against Brentford, a timely boost considering Arsenal take on RC Lens in the UEFA Champions League tomorrow night.
