Mikel Arteta handed worst-case Jurrien Timber Arsenal injury scenario with Euro 2024 update

Arsenal could be set to receive a damaging injury update on Jurrien Timber to add further delays to his already long-term absence. The summer signing had played just one full competitive game for the Gunners before picking up an ACL injury, with his second against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League interrupted just after half time.

Given Arteta and Edu's eagerness to sign him, it was a cruel blow for Arsenal with numerous tactical tweaks then needing to be made. Thomas Partey started the season at right-back, often inverting, with Gabriel Magalhaes dropping out of the defence to allow some cover behind Declan Rice while the £105million signing was still considered the deepest-lying midfielder.

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu have also been affected by injury and suspension, giving Arteta further problems at full-back on top of the Timber issue. Alongside this, Ben White was the latest defensive star to be stricken with injury as he missed the win over Burnley before the international break.

Despite having two weeks to recover, White is still being assessed due to a muscular issue ahead of the Premier League clash with Brentford this weekend. Meanwhile, football.london understands that club captain Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus are both currently fine for Saturday's clash while Emile Smith Rowe will remain out until next month.

Having Odegaard and Jesus back is a significant boost although it comes after Partey suffered an injury setback earlier this month with the Ghana international undergoing a procedure that will keep him out until the new year. On the topic of setbacks, it looks as though Timber may have suffered the same fate following a new report coming out of Dutch media.

According to Algemeen Dagblad, when discussing Ronald Koeman's options for Euro 2024, it was claimed that Timber will not be fit for the competition next summer. As such, it certainly suggests the former Ajax man will not feature again this season despite hopes he could be included in the resubmitted Champions League squad for the knockout stages that has a March deadline.

This update gives Arsenal further incentive to keep a hold of Takehiro Tomiyasu amid interest from Bayern Munich. Thomas Tuchel is a big admirer of the Japan international although him departing in January is highly unlikely and while a summer exit may not be ruled out, Timber's road to full fitness could be a long one with Tomiyasu therefore needed as an option to not rush him back into the fold.
