Peter Crouch gives surprise Tottenham vs Chelsea prediction as Postecoglou handed title boost

Your morning Tottenham Hotspur digest on Monday, November 6.

Crouch's verdict

Ex-Spurs centre-forward Peter Crouch has backed his old side to comfortably beat Chelsea when the two sides meet in the Premier League this evening. Speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast about the match, the former England international said: “I’m strong for Spurs here. I’m 3-0 Spurs, I’m going.”

The Lilywhites currently sit second in the table behind Manchester City. A win would result in them leapfrogging Pep Guardiola's side.

Potential title boost

Tottenham Hotspur were handed a significant boost in their hopes of winning this season's Premier League title after Liverpool drew 1-1 with Luton Town on Sunday afternoon. The north Londoners currently sit second in the table, having a game in hand, when they take on Chelsea this evening.

The Reds had the chance to leapfrog Spurs and go second with a victory away to the newly-promoted side, who have struggled since gaining promotion to the English top flight at the end of last term. But Jurgen Klopp's men are two points behind the Lilywhites, who now have the chance to go five points above their title rivals if they beat the Blues tonight.

Ange Postecoglou and Co remain the only team in the division yet to taste defeat in the league after Arsenal lost on Saturday, the first time they have done so so far this season.

Chelsea prediction

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has backed Chelsea to secure a surprise victory against Tottenham when the two London rivals play this evening. "I'll be there in north London for this one and I don't see Chelsea getting beaten," Merson wrote in his SportsKeeda column.

"Teams that have had a go at the Blues this season haven't had it easy, as was the case for Arsenal and Liverpool. Spurs will come out all guns blazing and start on the front foot and I think that will play to Chelsea's strengths.

"Ange Postecoglou's side come into the game on a high and this is the first time in years Spurs fans will be expecting to beat Chelsea, which shows how far they've come under their new manager. Mauricio Pochettino, on the other hand, returns to a place he once called home and I think he'll get a good reception, at least until the game starts.

"He's done a lot for the club and should be remembered despite the fact that he's managing one of their arch-rivals. It's important to remember that he was sacked; he didn't ask to leave the club in 2019. I'll be really disappointed if he doesn't get a good reception, let me put it this way. I'm not underestimating Tottenham, but I fancy Chelsea to win this one."

Merson's prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Chelsea
