Tottenham confirmed team vs Aston Villa - Emerson and Gil start with Dier and Hojbjerg benched

Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham are looking to get back to winning ways as fourth takes on fifth in the Premier League with the visit of Aston Villa to N17.

Just a single point and place separates the two clubs going into Sunday's afternoon kick-off and Postecoglou and his Spurs players will be hoping to increase their current lead over the Villans to four points and keep themselves firmly in the top four. Postecoglou faces another tough week though with injuries or suspensions.

As if the long list of absent Tottenham players was not enough through injury and Cristian Romero and Yves Bissouma's suspension, so Ashley Phillips hurt his ankle on England U19 duty which is likely to keep him out of action for a month. Pape Matar Sarr was also a doubt with a problem picked up after scoring his first goal for Senegal and misses out entirely.

At least Destiny Udogie is fit to play and free from suspension so returns and Postecoglou has made another change with Emerson Royal coming in for Eric Dier to make up back four of full-backs. Eric Dier drops to the bench.

With those midfield absences Postecoglou has made plenty of changes, using Rodrigo Bentancur in the number six role as Marcelo Bielsa did for Uruguay with Dejan Kulusevski and Giovani Lo Celso making up the rest of the midfield. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg drops to the bench.

Bryan Gil also starts while in-form academy youngsters Jamie Donley and Alfie Dorrington continue to be involved in the squad on a bench with only eight players, and two goalkeepers on it.

Here's the team that Postecoglou has selected for Sunday's match.

Vicario; Porro, Emerson, Davies, Udogie; Kulusevski, Bentancur, Lo Celso; Gil, Son, Johnson. Subs: Forster, Austin, Dier, Dorrington, Skipp, Donley, Gil, Veliz.
