Tottenham eye ex-Chelsea starlet transfer as potential Richarlison replacement amid exit links

Tottenham's Premier League season could be defined heavily by their movements in the January transfer window as Ange Postecoglou continues to transform his squad towards his vision. The Australian head coach has already made significant strides towards doing so.

In the summer there was a shift towards letting some players leave while adding those that will fit the style that suits Postecoglou best. That has reflected well early on, with positive results keeping Spurs towards the top of the table after the first few months of the campaign.

The only issue early on will have been concerns over squad depth, with it taking time to build a full squad that may be able to challenge at the top. That possibility has become a reality as of late, with a host of players missing through injuries and suspensions at a key time.

Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon have been injury concerns, while Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie and Yves Bissouma have faced suspensions in the past week or so. It has left Postecoglou looking for answers in the short-term to deal with that reality.

January offers the chance to move the needle with the squad, adding some quality options to the squad that will keep them competitive. One of those recently linked is former Chelsea starlet Samuel Illing-Junior, an England youth prospect that has impressed in a short time at Juventus.

According to a report from the Independent, Spurs are eyeing a potential move for the 20-year-old as an option that could bolster the squad. The forward has a contract with just over one-year remaining on it with the Bianconeri, while the two sides have good business relations following previous deals.

That potential signing could pave the way for an exit elsewhere as recent reports from the Telegraph claim that Richarlison is a target for Saudi Arabian clubs in January. The Brazilian forward has struggled to hit his scoring best with Spurs since joining from Everton, despite stints at centre-forward and then left-wing.

With a spell on the sidelines and the emergence of Brennan Johnson, an exit may be on the cards, which could see the possible replacement in Illing-Junior. Spurs WhatsApp channel
