Liverpool and Arsenal played out a high-octane first half in their top-of-the-table Premier League clash at Anfield on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp was caught in the crossfire during a moment of madness, which saw Kostas Tsimikas substituted after a hard-hitting challenge from Bukayo Saka took out both Liverpool men.

The festive affair on Merseyside promised entertainment as Klopp and Mikel Arteta's side prepared to do battle for the honour of being Premier League leaders at Christmas.

And supporters were gripped right from the off as neither side pulled their punches in search of a statement victory.

Gabriel Magalhaes aimed a bullet header past Alisson after just four minutes to put the visitors ahead.

But Mohamed Salah became a top-10 all-time Premier League goalscorer with his 151st in the competition to fire Liverpool level on the half-hour mark.

Moments later, a duel between Saka and Tsimikas boiled over the white outer lines of the pitch, dragging Klopp into the action.

As the Gunners winger left Tsimikas in the dirt to progress the ball towards the Liverpool goal, the latter took out his own manager, leaving him in a heap in the technical area.

Klopp left the collision unscathed, but Tsimikas looked to have suffered a shoulder problem after being bundled over by Saka.

The Greece international was forced off shortly after, with Klopp calling on Joe Gomez to replace him at left-back to set up an intriguing duel with Saka down the flank.

Liverpool entered the high-stakes encounter looking to bounce back from their disappointing 0-0 draw against Manchester United in the league last weekend.

Klopp oversaw a dominant 5-1 triumph against West Ham United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in midweek but will be desperate not to lose further ground against a direct title rival.
