Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag demands apology from Fulham over Bruno Fernandes post

Erik ten Hag has demanded an apology from Fulham after they mocked Bruno Fernandes on social media following their victory at Old Trafford last weekend. The west Londoners left it late to claim all three points, with Alex Iwobi's stoppage-time winner condemning Manchester United to another lacklustre defeat on home soil.

Fernandes appeared to pick up an injury at one stage during the match, although he played through the pain to feature against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup four days later. Fulham went on to post a video on TikTok mocking the Portuguese midfielder for supposed play-acting, leaving his manager furious.

Ten Hag pulled no punches as he slammed the 'pathetic' criticism of Fernandes in Friday's press conference, with the Dutchman urging Fulham to apologise for their 'misjudged' post.

"I didn’t know this, but if they did it, I would say it is not right," said the United boss. "It is absolutely not right that a club makes such a statement, because it is totally out of order and wrong and they should apologise for this. Bruno is a very passionate football player and a very creative one.

"He has created the most chances in the Premier League. Opponents are targeting him, especially after Saturday, when he had the knock. They see it and the referee should protect him there. It was so obvious they were looking for him.

"I thought it was definitely a foul on Saturday and really misjudged from media, from social media, to blame him. That was my point yesterday [after the win at Forest]. Opponents are targeting him and that's not right. There were fouls on him even after the ball was kicked away."

The clip posted by Fulham showed Fernandes going to ground under a challenge from Sasa Lukic. He was then spotted waving his arm in the air to appeal for a foul before rising to his feet and showing for the ball just seconds later. The short video, which was accompanied by comical music, has been viewed nearly 500,000 times with over 51,000 likes.

Ten Hag went on to insist that Fernandes will be available for Sunday's showdown with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, with the 29-year-old having never missed a game through injury since joining United back in 2020.

Quizzed on whether Fernandes and Raphael Varane will be fit to play, Ten Hag said: "They fought to be part and they came well out of the game [at Forest] so I think they will be available for Sunday as well. I don’t think [any injured] players will return, so we do it with the squad from yesterday."
