Nike drew up plans for 'rainbow England kit' to take shirt to drastic new levels

The idea was supposedly vetoed by the FA though and deemed a ‘bridge too far’, despite allowing the St George’s Cross idea to pass through the deliberation process seamlessly. The FA have therefore been left with little choice but to defend the kit and hope that England’s performances on the pitch can provide a more positive talking point.

However, the Three Lions were unable to make their first match in kit a winner on Saturday night when they faced Brazil at Wembley Stadium. Southgate’s side were beaten 1-0 on the night, with Real Madrid prospect Endrick, 17, scoring the all-important goal in the 80th minute.
