Alan Titchmarsh congratulates Angela Rippon on turning 80
Alan Titchmarsh invited a host of star-studded guests onto his Sunday morning gardening show, Love Your Weekend.
During the latest instalment of the 75-year-old's weekend show (February 2), the beloved broadcaster welcomed Angela Rippon and Gary Kemp onto the heartwarming programme.
But before he got stuck into an interview with the former Strictly Come Dancing star, Alan halted the show to point out a huge milestone.
Alan said: “Lovely to have you with us and congratulations are due... first of all, Angela, on turning 80! I know it’s rude to talk about a lady’s age but it’s hardly a secret!”
Angela – who turned 80 back in October – burst into laughter as she admitted: “Well, I always say I went to school with too many girls with long memories and big mouths so there is no point lying about it!”

This prompted Gary, 65, to add: “Congratulations, you look amazing!” while Alan echoed: “Oh goodness me!” It comes after Angela took part in the 2023 series of Strictly Come Dancing with her professional dance partner Kai Widdrington and they were the eighth couple to be eliminated.
During her time on the show, she turned 79, making her the oldest contestant to compete in the programme’s history. During the interview on Sunday’s show, Angela opened up about her impressive career as well as her time on the BBC One dance competition.
Renowned for breaking new ground as the first female to regularly host the BBC national news in 1975, Angela has been a pioneer for women in the field of journalism.
Her career – which is decorated with various accolades – spans roles as a journalist, television presenter, newsreader, and writer, beginning back in 1966 at BBC Plymouth.
Angela’s extensive experience in front of the camera includes hosting a variety or radio and TV programmes, boasting a resume that features everything from Antiques Roadshow to teaming up with Danny Dyer on The Wall.
She has consistently demonstrated an ability to merge hard-hitting journalism with the sparkle of showbusiness. Her unforgettable high-kick routine behind the news desk and her dance with Ernie in the fames 1976 Morecambe and Wise Show Christmas special remains in the television hall of fame.
Fast forward to 2023. And Angela was once again dazzling audience with her incredible dance moves, this time on Strictly Come Dancing where she waltzed her way into week nine.
As the oldest contestant on the long-running show, she proved that age is just a number when it comes to staying active and vibrant.
Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh airs on Sundays from 9.30am on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX.
