Tottenham have been warned that “many teams” will be eyeing up Micky van de Ven for a summer transfer.

The Netherlands international has only recently returned from a hamstring injury, making his first appearance in six weeks during the 3-0 Europa League win over Elfsborg.

He lasted 45 minutes before a planned half-time change, with Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou relieved to have one of his star players back following a mass injury crisis.

Van de Ven is expected to feature again when Spurs travel to Brentford on Sunday, after Radu Dragusin damaged his knee in Europe this week.

However, former Spurs and Netherlands goalkeeper Michel Vorm has issued a warning that Van de Ven will be a hot topic this summer, especially if the club miss out on European football.

“There is no arguing with this that Van de Ven is a super talented and he has shown to be one of the best Premier League defenders on his day,” Vorm told Express Sport with 888sport.

“Super quick, great agility and a top defender, many teams will be looking to him for next season, especially those in the Champions League.”

Spurs and Van de Ven begin their trip to Brentford sat 16th in the Premier League table, a world away from securing Champions League football next season.

Their biggest chance at returning to Europe could be through cup competitions. They face Liverpool in the second leg of a Carabao Cup semi-final next week, with the overall winner qualifying for the Europa League.

News of interest in Van de Ven, whose contract expires in 2029, will come as a major blow. Especially with clubs in Spain circling for Cristian Romero.

Spurs are in a stronger position with Van de Ven, as the Argentine’s deal is up in 2027, but without European football the club is not in a powerful bargaining position if Champions League sides come calling.

The sole addition to Postecoglou’s stretched squad in the winter market has been goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, who was brought in after injury to Guglielmo Vicario.

The Czech stopper has made a bright start to life in north London and was signed to challenge his Italian colleague rather than play second-fiddle, but Vorm expects Vicario to be restored to first-choice upon his recovery from ankle surgery.

“I see Vicario coming straight back in the team when he is fit,” Vorm added. “He is Spurs number one, he has shown this over a while now and Spurs miss him.

“He gives the defence confidence and with Spurs now having played four goalkeepers this season, this does have an effect on the defence that there is a new keeper in goal.

“Spurs are on a bad run of form and I believe just having Vicario’s presence in goal will mean a massive difference to the team.”
