Meghan Markle confirms Archie and Lilibet's accents as fans rage
Meghan Markle left fans raging as she finally confirmed what accents her children Archie and Lilibet have after moving to Montecito with her husband Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Sussex appeared on the Drew Barrymore Show to discuss her latest Netflix project – lifestyle programme With Love, Meghan, which sees her try out new recipes, chat to celebrity pals and demonstrate bee-keeping. During their chat, she brought up her two children, leaving fans divided.
Meghan explained that both her kids have "very American accents", but still say certain words with a British accent. The word "zebra" in particular is pronounced "zeb-ra" instead of the American "zee-bra".
She explained: "Oh, some of the words that they still say with a British accent, so they’ll say zeb-ra [for zebra] and what else do they say? They have these little moments where it comes out and because they have very American accents, but they say words that are just like him, and I think it’s adorable.”
Clips have surfaced over the years with the kids chattering away in their American accents off-camera, but fans still aren't happy.
One X user raged: "That’s pronunciation, not accent. Ah, Meghan, as ever you don’t know what you’re talking about." Another posted: "Meghan doesn’t know the difference between accent and pronunciation." Someone else said: "There is nothing British about her children. Harry now sounds American as he’s losing his accent. They have never even met their British relatives - it’s just more fake royal cosplaying by Meghan."
On ITV's Good Morning Britain this morning (March 6), entertainment correspondent Richard Arnold was on set to discuss Meghan's chat show appearance.
Plenty of fans were keen to defend Meghan, posting via social media: "@GMB cannot hide their distain of Meghan today, grown adults taunting a woman like children in a playground, shameful." Another said: "We can see why Harry & Meghan left because of our vile media GMB's Balls & Reid knocking Meghan Markle all the time like her mate Piers Morgan!"
Others, however, were siding with Ed and Susanna, with one moaning: "Jesus Meghan Markle is so so sickly!" as another agreed: "Meghan Markle always looks like she’s overacting."
