A car has reportedly plunged off a multi-storey car park at Luton Airport, leaving a man with 'serious' injuries.

Police confirmed that the incident occurred just before 11am and that only one vehicle was involved.

The incident has caused disruption for holidaymakers travelling to and from the airport with cars diverted to different areas.

While the airport has continued to operate as usual, pictures show traffic being diverted away from both multi-storey car parks.

Emergency barriers were also in place around a multi-story car park.

The vehicle fell from Car Park 1 and the man is now in hospital with injuries.

It is not yet clear what floor the car fell from, but an eyewitness, who shared a photo of the police response on X, told Metro that police said the vehicle had fallen from the second floor of the car park.

The BBC reported that it saw the victim's car appeared to be on its side and wedged against the side of the car park building, while a crane was being positioned above it.

'Arriving vehicles are being redirected to the airport's mid-stay car park until further notice.

'There is no disruption to wider airport operations.'

Luton is London’s fourth-largest airport, serving around 17 million passengers a year.

In April, Chancellor Rachel Reeves gave the green light to expand Luton Airport to 32 million by 2040, which could see take-offs and landings on its single runway increase by 77,000 flights annually – an average of 211 extra movements per day.

The ambitious plan would include the construction of a brand new terminal.

The huge project is projected to cost over £2billion, but the government hopes the expansion project will deliver an economic boost.
