On this morning's GB News, journalist Fraser Myers stated Donald Trump's America remains "the key player" in negotiations with the Gaza conflict. He also stated Sir Keir Starmer's position risks rewarding Hamas, even after Israel agreed to the ceasefire conditions.
Myers told GB News host Ellie Costello: "The US is really the key player here, and the US recently walked out of the ceasefire talks. It is worth remembering there are two sides to this war; that's what Kier Starmer's message seems to forget. Enduring ceasefire, Hamas, the other side, also has to play ball. The US essentially abandoned recent ceasefire talks, and Israel agreed to the terms, whereas Hamas didn't.
"That's really the issue at the moment, and people will be asking, 'Well, how can Israel essentially be punished and Hamas rewarded if Hamas doesn't play ball?
"If Hamas doesn't release the hostages and we don't get a ceasefire, then we end up with Keir Starmer's recognition of Palestine. These are conditions which make no sense."
His comments come as Starmer has been under continued pressure from his cabinet to recognise statehood. Last week, more than 250 MPs across parties signed a letter calling on him to act.
On Tuesday, Starmer said the UK could take the step of recognising statehood in September.
But this has been criticised by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who claimed it "rewards Hamas's monstrous terrorism".
After an emergency meeting on Gaza in Downing Street, Starmer said the UK's "message to the terrorists of Hamas is unchanged but unequivocal: they must immediately release all of the hostages, sign up to a ceasefire, disarm, and accept that they will play no part in the government of Gaza".
Starmer also said the move was designed to create "a long-term peaceful outcome".
